On The Verge: The Weekend in View

Written By Chris Hoskins

Mesmerized by politics, we somehow missed the fact that it’s already mid-November. How did that happen? How does the holiday season officially kick off next week? Thanksgiving. Black Friday. Cyber Monday. The whole shebang. Don’t we deserve a bit of a break (or brief hibernation) after finally getting through such a sour election season?

While nothing slows the holidays, you can take some time for yourself and step away from the surge of season, and you can do so while enjoying the endless summer of our San Diego coastline. If you head to Embarcadero Marina Park North this Saturday afternoon, you’ll find yourself in esteemed company at the Grand Tasting at the San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival. The event caps the weeklong festival of top-names in the business, and you’ll find more than 60 of San Diego’s best chefs there, along with demos, live music, purveyors by the hundreds, and more. There’s seriously no better way to put last week behind you and to forget about next.

If you’re feeling more reclusive this weekend and want to keep closer to home, our top choice is a short trip to South Park and to Thanksgiving Supper Club at Eclipse Chocolate Bar & Bistro. This Friday and Saturday, they’ll be featuring a 3-course meal of utter deliciousness, led with starters and apps. Explore the menu and make reservations early to ensure your seat at the table.

Even closer to home, Blvd. Market retakes El Cajon Blvd. this Friday night, and North Park recently welcomed both Poki One N Half and Pop Pie Co. to the foodie scene. Enjoy the freshness of a Hawaiian favorite or sample the sweet and savory selections from Pop. And while there, don’t forget to put in your order for next week!

No matter whether you choose to go big or keep it small and local, make the weekend your own and enjoy, Verge. You deserve it!

Gather

Events and Happenings

Consider a trip to Del Mar this weekend, where the final exhibition of John Lennon’s art and lyrics will be on display, then make a full day of it with a stop at the Del Mar Antique Show. As long as we’re not thinking too much about the holidays just yet, there’s no harm in finding that one of a kind piece for ourselves.

In the Wind

Get Out, Get Active

Through all the weekend temptations, we always find time for balance and fitness, and we appreciate playful opportunities for both. You can head to Qualcomm for a one-mile run and an after party of beer, games, and music, or you might appreciate practicing your yoga in fresh venue—both Culture Brewing and the USS Midway play host.

Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.
